Students took the writing pre-test. Students who missed a day of pre-testing will make up the testing during spartan forum and this will be organized by the school, not by Ms. Norr. The purpose of this assignment is for students to slow down and consider how the community would have reacted to and perceived what happened in the park between Johnny and Bob. Students are encouraged to use powerful word choice and a variety of sentences in their newspaper page.

We received up-to-date grade sheets and passed back graded work. We watched a video about 9/11, and we wrote gratitude letters to servicemen and women. We took notes on types of sentences and practiced writing complex sentences. We also finished reading the rising action of chapter #3. Today in class . . . We turned in reading log #1 and received reading log #2. Students started reading chapter #3 and practiced writing themes.

Students met with classmates who studied the same character. They made predictions about topics that will come up in the book. Using these topics they started thinking about a theme they would like to learn about this year. We also finished reading chapter #2. Today in class . . .
Students chose a character to create a character poster for. They reviewed Ponyboy's description of the character from Chapter #1 and listened to chapter #2 as they worked. Character posters were turned in today. Today in class . . .
Students filled our a self-evaluation of the skills we would cover in this unit. Student also set a goal for what they wanted to work on and finished reading chapter #1. |
