Today in class . . . Students practiced writing all four types of sentences as we summarized what was happening in our class novel. We may have thrown a few (paper) snowballs in the process. Students who were absent need to complete the assignment attached below.

We review a model response to our pre-test from the 2nd day of school. Students received their pre-tests back and reviewed their answers. We finished reading chapter #2 in our novel and did a sentence sorting activity. Students who were absent will need to come in before or after school to demonstrate to Ms. Norr that they can explain the difference between phrases, clauses, and dependent clauses. Today in class . . .
We took notes on types of sentences. Students who were absent will need to copy those notes from a friend/neighbor. We also practiced writing phrases and clauses using whiteboards. We even practiced fixing compound sentences. Students who were absent will need to copy notes and practice writing these things on their own. Today in class . . .
We used the laptops to take a quiz on Parts of Speech. The quiz is posted as an assignment in Google Classroom. You can access google classroom by following this link. Students have access to google classroom through their student email addresses. This is a gmail address. The address is the student's username with @wsdstudent.net at the end. You should have received two emails from Ms. Norr through google classroom. You can also access the quiz through that email. Please let me know if you experience problems. This is a new technology that I am still working out the kinks with. Today in class . . . Students read the story "Extreme Measures" and filled out the study guide that went along with it. Both things are attached below.
Today in class . . . We finished reading chapter two from our class novel as we practiced two new skills. The skills were asking questions, and identifying organizational patterns. The assignment is attached to yesterday's post. The posters that introduced these two new skills are attached below.
Today in class . . . Students read independently from our class novel. For each pair of pages they did these things: They identified important words and their part of speech. Then they listed 3 important event that happened. Lastly, they summarized the section. The assignment is attached below. Student will need to read chapter 2 to complete the assignment.

Students used the grammar textbook to study one part of speech in depth. Afterwards, they taught each other. Students who were absent will need to study the definition and types of nouns, pronouns, and adjectives. Today in class . . . We worked out of our grammar books. The notes and required exercises are explained in the attached document. Students will need to check a book out from Ms. Norr.
