We took notes on theme. Then we read pages 114-127 in our books. Tomorrow we will analyze the themes in our book and find quotes and evidence to support them. Today in class . . .
We read through page 114 of our book. Then we did some research on Night Terrors. Student wrote a paragraph that answered the question: Did Ponyboy have night terrors? The paragraph was at least 6 sentences long and used evidence from the videos. We turned in Reading Log #4. At the computer lab, we did peer reviews on our articles. After peer reviewing we made revisions, our final drafts will be graded digitally on Monday. Check your student email for further instructions. Today in class . . .
We drafted our Outsiders newspaper articles in the computer lab. If you missed today, you need to work on your draft at home. You can access your draft by logging in to your student Gmail account. Click on the apps grid in the top right corner, choose Drive (the triangle one). Then your document you be in My Drive. Today in class . . . We went over the guidelines for our newspaper article project. Then we outlined our articles. After finishing our outlines, we moved on to drafting our articles on a Google doc. The instructions and guidelines are attached below. Please see the email I sent to your student email account. It has links to my example and the template that you will use.

We went to the library and started researching for our Outsiders newspaper article. Today in class . . . We took our quotation marks quiz. We also turned in our Reaction & Evaluation homework assignment. Then, we started working on our research plan for our Outsiders newspaper articles. The quiz and research plan paper are attached below.
Today in class . . . We took notes on the types of narrators that authors use in fiction. Then we watched a video about S. E. Hinton and how she helped with the creation of The Outsiders movie. I have attached it below. BEWARE, if you watch past 6:30 there is a terrible spoiler. The assignment attached below was homework. You need to read the interview and then give reaction and evaluation. Fill all of the lines on the assignment. Explain whether you think Ponyboy was the best narrator for the book. Give examples from the book as to why he is or isn't good. Make suggestions about who might have been better, or the drawbacks of a first-person narrator.
Today in class . . . We read the climax of the novel on pages 87-96 of our book. We filled out a plot diagram analysis of just this part of the book. If you were absent, the assignment is attached below.

We graded our quizzes from Friday and reported on experiences with the substitutes. We finished our conflict assignments. We added on example of each type of conflict to our plot line papers. We read to page #87. Today in class . . . (there was a substitute) We took notes on the four different types of conflict that occur in a novel. Afterwards, we identified each type of conflict in our live and in a story we have read or watched. The assignment is attached below if you missed class. We also read to page #84.
Today in class . . . (there was a substitute) We took our subject and predicates quiz. If you missed it please take the quiz and bring it to me to grade. It is attached below. We also learned about the different types of characters in a novel. We categorized all of the characters we have met so far and analyzed our protagonist. The assignment is also attached below.

We took notes on the 6 elements of plot. Then we drew the outline of a plot diagram on a blank piece of legal paper. We will add elements and descriptions to this outline and turn it in when we finish the novel. Here are the notes: Elements of Plot Notes · Plot: the sequence of related events that make up a story · Exposition: the beginning of the story that introduces the characters and the setting · Setting: the time and place of a story · Rising Action: series of events & conflicts that build interest and suspense leading up to the climax · Climax: the point of maximum interest, the turning point · Falling Action: the sequence of events which follow the climax and lead to resolution · Resolution:the end of the story where everything is resolved and the loose ends are tied up Below is a picture of our outlines as of 10-7-14. We talked about 4 types of questions that students can ask as they read. We also discussed 5 types of expository of writing. Students brainstormed question and types of writing that they could like to use in their article project. |
