We finished reading our novel. Discussed the major and minor themes, and worked on late or missing work. Today in class . . . We took guided notes on conflict and theme. Then we identified and explained examples of these two concepts in our class novel. The assignment is attached below.
Today in class . . . We previewed the skills and concepts that we will study during the next unit of study. We evaluated our present abilities in those areas and set SMART goals that we would work on during the unit. The self-evaluation document is attached below.

We reviewed our self-evaluations that we did at the beginning of the unit. We identified skills that we mastered and skills that we need to continue working on. We also read on in our class novel. Today in class . . .
We finished the assignment we started yesterday by analyzing how S.E. Hinton characterized a one of the greasers. Today in class . . . We took guided notes on characterization and began working on the attached assignment. It will be due tomorrow at the end of class. I also passes out grade sheets warning students that all missing/late work is due next Wednesday.
Today in class . . . We competed, as table groups, to use prefixes and suffixes in words. The teams that earned the most points were awarded extra credit. The assignment that we filled out during this game is attached below.

We took notes on root words, affixes, prefixes, and suffixes. Then we practiced affixing prefixes and suffixes to common root words. Finally, we identified the elements of words as we finished reading chapter #8 in our class novel. Today in class . . .
Students made the changes their peer suggested, edited their projects, answered some reflection questions, and turned in their final draft. See google classroom for directions. Today in class . . . Students finished drafting their letters and did peer reviews. The peer review document is attached below. If you were absent, you can have someone peer review your assignment and turn it in for credit.

We started drafting our Letter to the Editor. Students will need all of the directions and resources posted on google classroom in order to complete the assignment. There was an email with a link sent out today. Today in class . . . Students outlined their letter to the editor by stating their purpose, identifying reasons and evidence and elaborating on those. The assignment we filled out is attached below.
Today in class . . . We annotated the newspaper articles that we will base our letters to the editor on. Students who were absent need to find one of their own newspaper articles on a topic that is relevant to our book, The Outsiders, or use one of the articles below.

We practiced using quotation marks correctly and writing signal phrases to accompany quotes. We practiced this with the whiteboards as we finished reading chapter #7 in our book. HOMEWORK: Students needed to find a news article about their topic that they want to write their letter to the editor on. The article needs to be in class tomorrow. Today in class . . .
We use the laptops to read the project requirements for our Letter to the Editor. We also practiced annotating a model letter to the editor. Afterwards, we signed up for topics that we wanted to do our letters on. Students who were absent need to log in to google classroom and view the assignments and files attached to it. Today in class . . .
We took our type of sentences quiz through google classroom. The quiz was a google form. Students must access that form through the link they received in their email of by logging in to google classroom. |
