Today in class . . . We read the first half of chapter #4 individually. This was pages 53-62. We also wrote a summary of what we read. The assignment was just half of the document attached below.

Today in class . . .
We finished reading chapter #3 and then worked with our groups on our posters. They are now hanging up. Today in class . . . We played a subject and predicate review game instead of taking a quiz. We will continue studying these concepts and take our quiz next Friday. The sef-starters for the week are posted below. We also took notes on four different types of characters. Those notes will be available with the rest of our elements of fiction notes. If you missed class. You will want to get the notes from a friend, because those won't be posted for a while.

We finished reading chapter two and started reading chapter 3. Today in class . . .
We worked in our groups on our posters. It was great to see so many of you at parent teacher conference. Today in class . . . We practiced two good reading strategies. We made inferences about the events and characters in our book. Then we unpacked our reasoning behind those inferences. Afterwards, we made text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world connections with our book. If you missed class today you will need to do the assignment attached below and read pages 19-26.
Today in class . . . We took our quiz on conjunctions and types of sentences. If you missed class, you will need to take that quiz using the file below and bring it to me so that I can grade it. We also finished our predictions assignment. Students took it home for homework if they were not done with it. We are nearly done reading chapter #1 of The Outsiders.
Today in class . . .
We took our elements of language pre-test. If you missed it please come take it after school or during spartan study hall. The test covered the parts of speech, the punctuation spectrum and types of sentences. Today in class . . . You had a substitute because Ms. Norr was at the environmental center with the peer leaders. Students used their notes, assignments, self-starters, and pretest to complete the study guide attached below. If you were absent please look at the study guide.
We have completed our poster final drafts and presented them in class. Students earned points for taking notes on presentations. These points can be made up by taking notes on the posters that are displayed in the classroom.
Today in class . . . We took our punctuation quiz. If you missed it, you will need to download it and bring it in for me to grade. We completed our poster final drafts and will present them in class on Monday.
Today in class . . . We finished our proposals and poster drafts. They are worth 10 points so make sure you turn them in. Please see my example of a poster draft below.
Today in class . . . Reading Log #1 was due. It can still be turned in, it will just be docked 2 points for being late. You can turn it in with an oops card in order to not lose those 2 points. If you were absent, you will need to get an absent coupon from me. I passed out Reading Log #2, it is due on September, 24th. You can download it below. We started our final project for this unit. It is a grammar poster. Please see the project guidelines and proposal attached below.
Today in class . . . We reviewed the two types of affixes. Prefixes and suffixes are added to beginning and ends of words to change their meanings or part of speech. Using word strips, partnerships competed to earn the most point. Points were eared by creating the most words and the most complex words. Here are the assignment sheet and the handout we used:

Today in class . . . We took our pronoun quiz and talked about relative pronouns today.
Today in class . . . We went over the four cases of pronouns. We filled out the chart attached below and did a cloze reading activity. If you missed class you will have to get the cloze activity from the absent crate.
Today in class . . . We took notes on three types of phrases. Download the file below for those notes. Then we wrote 15 sentences that had all three types of phrases. We circled the subjective noun, boxed the main verb and underlined the preposition.
Today in class . . . Each student studied to become the master of one of these parts of speech: nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives. Then each student taught a small group of students about his or her part of speech. Students took notes on each other's presentations. Here is the assignment and handout if you missed it.
