Today in class . . . We discussed our project that we will write as we finish our book. The project sheet is attached below. Students chose which character they will write from the perspective of. Then, they brainstormed which belief he would choose. Lastly, they reviewed the pages we have read so far for stories that demonstrate that belief.
Today in class . . .
We read through page 109 in our book. Then we practiced writing pronouns in all of the cases. Using the pronoun chart picture below, students wrote 12 sentences. They needed to label the pronouns they used and use each case 3 times. Today in class . . . We read through page 105 of our book and created a newspaper front page about the event that happened on page 105.
Today in class . . . We took our quiz on nouns after playing a review game.
We read the next two chapters in our book and completed the attached assignment.
Today in class . . . We had our 2nd discussion about our book. Students who were absent will need to fill in the attached assignment in order to earn credit for the discussion.
Today in class . . . We finished our verbs quiz, corrected it, finished reading Passage to Elephant Island, and wrote our short stories.
Today in class . . . Students review the first 81 pages of our book. They identified a passage that used each type of text feature. Then, they filled in the diagram to demonstrate what the passage taught them. The assignment is attached below.

Students worked on missing/ late work or the assignment for tomorrow. Today in class . . .
We finished and turned in our 3 Ways to Die in the Antarctic assignment. Then we read the chapter called "Into the Boats." Today in class . . .
We played a review game for the first half of class. Afterwards, we quickly took our adverbs quiz. Today in class . . . Students read and analyzed 6 different passages about 3 ways our explorers could die in the Antarctic. They determined what the author/creators claim was. Then listed 2-3 pieces of evidence to support their interpretation of the text. The pdf. attached below has directions, passages, and links to the passages that were used.
Today in class . . . Students read independently and filled out the attached guided reading assignment.

We made a lot of progress in our story. We read through page 66. Today in class . . .
We had a silent discussion about mutiny and unity. We discussed which conditions we would be willing to work through and which conditions we would take action to get out of. Decisions were never unanimous. Students wrote a paragraph reflection on what would cause them to mutiny and what would not. The reflection is due tomorrow. |
