We finished our pamphlets. The pamphlet is on-time as long as it is turned in before winter break. In order to earn full-credit (15 points) the pamphlet must include these things: 1. An interesting title page. 2. A table of contents and 3 headings with objective summaries of each topic. 3. Two sub-headings with objective summaries of each topic. 4. Two pictures with good captions. 5. Two pull-quotes or graphics with captions. 6. Three bolded words with definitions. +5 points possible if you add color and pay attention to handwriting and font.

Today in class . . .
Students used the index to find information for their pamphlets. Most students will turn the pamphlet in tomorrow in class. Some students chose to attend a guest author Lance Conrad. These students will have tomorrow in class to complete their pamphlets. Today in class . . . We started working on a two-day project. This project is to create an informational text about the Shackleton expedition that our book is about. The text format is a pamphlet. Students chose a purpose, audience and topic for their pamphlets. They planned their outlines by filling out this outline: I. Main Idea A. Supporting Detail #1 B. Supporting Detail #2 1. Clarifying Detail #1 2. Clarifying Detail #2 C. Supporting Detail #3 The pamphlet that students will fill in is attached below. Students will spend class time tomorrow filling in the pamphlet.
Today in class . . . We used the index to research one specific member of our crew. Then we created a value poster depicting an attribute that this crew member personified. Today in class . . . We read chapter #5 of our book. As we read, student filled in the guided outline attached below. This outline requires student to find clarifying details to prove supporting details and main ideas.

We outlined the supporting details and main idea of Chapter #3 as we read in class. Students who were absent will need to turn in an outline of chapter #3. Today in class . . .
We used sticky notes to help us identify the supporting details and main idea of what we read in class. Student who were absent will need to read through the end of chapter two in our book. Today in class . . . We created text features to go along with pictures. Students took on the role of reporter or writer and created Headlines, Subtitles, Cations, and Subheading to go along with photos. The assignment and photos are attached below.
Today in class . . . We took the notes attached below. Then we searched through our new book to find examples of each of the text features. The assignment and notes are attached for any student that was absent.
Today in class . . . Students filled out the self-evaluation for our Non-Fiction unit and set a goal. We also started reading our new book Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World by Jennifer Armstrong.

We took our literary device test. Students who were absent need to take the test during spartan forum or before or after school. Students must not use notes. Today in class . . . We reviewed for our test tomorrow and filled out a study guide. Students who were absent need to complete the study guide in preparation for Friday's test.

Students independently analyzed and poem. Then they answer questions about the theme, and evidence that supports it. Today in class . . .
We reviewed our literary devices using the whiteboards. Students who were absent will need to find an example of each of the terms attached below in a poem of their choice. |
