We took our adjectives quiz. Then we finished our Mutiny and Shipwreck jigsaw that we started on yesterday. We also read until page 50.

Today in class . . . We read one of the four passages with our groups. We became the experts on how that passage was similar to the Endurance expedition. Then we presented that passage in a small group. The other members of these groups presented the other three articles and we took notes on each. If you were absent, you will need to read all of the articles and decide how the Endurance expedition will avoid the fates that these other expeditions met.
Today in class . . . We met with groups and discussed our book. This discussion took the entire class period and was worth quite a few points. In order to make it up, students must complete the assignment attached below.
Today in class . . . Students read the chapter called "Pressure" with their table groups. They also filled out the response sheet attached below as preparation for their discussion tomorrow.

We wrote descriptive passages to accompany a picture of Antarctica. These passages had to be at least 1/2 of a page long. Students chose the picture they described. They used figurative language, sensory details, good verbs, and only a few adjectives. We also read through page 32. Today in class . . .
We took our narrative writing quiz. Then we discussed our homework assignment. Over the weekend, students must find a picture of something that looks antarctic. They will use this image for a creative writing assignment on Monday. The image below is a good example. I will be writing my descriptive assignment about pack ice. Students can print or bring a digital version of the image they choose. Today in class . . . We read through page 16 of our book. We also filled this map out with the first 3 important locations and dates for the expedition.

We finished our value posters. They must be hung on the back wall when you are finished in order to get credit. Today in class . . . We created value posters for the characters/figures in the book. This link has many examples of Value Posters. Using the template below, students created similar posters. Students much choose one person from the Endurance crew, research them using the index of our book and then create a poster.

Students who didn't finish yesterday finished their tests today. Other students read for their reading logs or worked on missing/late work. Today in class . . .
We took the SAGE writing test in Wiser's lab. Today in class . . .
We took our counterclaims and rebuttals quiz. Then we played an essay writing review game. Today in class . . .
We reviewed common Non-Fiction text features. Then we had a scavenger hunt in many popular Non-Fiction books. Today in class . . .
We finished writing our groundhog day essays. If you were absent, talk to me about finishing it. Today in class . . . We started on the assignment attached below. Students finished reading and annotating the articles. They should be halfway done with their outlines for tomorrow.
