Today in class . . . After predicting what their career's would be (directions below #1), students drew one of the these four career assignments. After our ceremony of twelve, we read chapter #7 and part of #8. Then they did they finished the steps below for their reflection. Ceremony of Twelve Reflection Questions Directions: Complete each part in 3 complete sentences. 1. Prediction: Predict what your assignent would be, give evidence the Elders would have noticed and explain how it would cause them to give you this assignment. 2. Reaction: Describe your reaction to the assignment. Which position would you choose? Do you think your abilities are well-suited to this position? Why? 3. Reflection: How do you think Jonas feels about being assigned Reciever? What inferences can you make about Jonases assignment? What is a question you have about his assignment? Today in class . . .
Students discussed the first quarter of their books. They asked each other questions and responded with evidence, elaboration, and counterclaims or rebuttals when appropriate. Students who were absent need to answer these questions below. Three complete sentences for each answer please (claim, evidence, elaboration). Make-Up Questions 1. Why do you think Jonas has to take the pills? What "problem" is the community trying to solve with the pills? 2. What do you think your assignment would be if we had a ceremony of 12? Why? 3. We read chapters 5 and 6 in preparation for tomorrows discussion. Students also filled out an index card that they will bring with them to their discussions. The directions for the card were these: Front: Write 3 "author and you" questions that you would like to ask your group members. Make sure that answering the question requires making an inference. Back: Write a 3-5 sentence summary of what you have read over the past week in the book. Today in class . . .

Students read chapters 3 and 4 from the giver. Afterwards, we added details to our KWHL papers in preparation for more research in the lab tomorrow. Students who were absent need to catch up on the reading and accomplish the assignments posted in google classroom for tomorrow. Today in class . . .
We met in groups and discussed the first two chapters of our book. Students came to the discussion prepared. Each student had a role in the discussion. Students' participation was evaluated by the teacher and their peers. Students who were absent must write a 1/2 page reflection about what we have read so far in order to earn these points. Today in class . . . We read chapter #2 of The Giver. Students filled out the preparation side of the assignment attached below.

We graded and turned in our "Old Glory" questions from Monday. Then we read chapter #1 from our new book "The Giver." Today in class . . .
We used google classroom to begin working on our Bill of Rights poster. Please log in, follow the directions, and begin researching. Today in class . . . We read the short story attached below. This story deals with some of the same themes the our new book "The Giver" will. Students need to read the story attached below and answer the questions too.

We discussed our answers on our anticipation guides. Students who were absent will need to write a half page elaborating on their answers from the anticipation guide. Today in class . . . We filled out our self-evaluations and an anticipation guide for our next book. The document is attached below.
