We are reviewing these comma rules for this weeks self starter: Comma Rules 1. Put a comma before FANBOYS in compound sentences. 2. Put a comma after the AWWUBBIS clause in a complex sentence. 3. Put commas around interrupters. 4. Put commas between items in a list. 5. Put commas after introductory phrases. Our assignment for today was titled "Comma Search." Students copied down five sentences from The Giver that used commas correctly. Then they identified which rules the sentences were following. We also read through chapter #18. Here is an example of what students should do for the comma search: Example: Now he had, in the memories, experienced injustice and cruelty, and he had reacted with rage. (page #124) Rules: 1 & 3 |
