Students took guided notes o types of characters and conflicts. Afterwards we finished reading chapter #4 and practiced identifying types of characters and conflicts in our book. Today in class . . . Students worked with partners to fill out the house plan about a theme in their poem. The poem is attached to yesterday's post. The house plan is attached below. Parent teacher conferences are tonight from 1:00-6:00

Students annotated this poem in preparation for writing an argument about its theme. We will write the argument outline tomorrow in class. Students wrote different types of sentences to review what has happened so far in our book. They had peers review and critique each sentence in preparation for our quiz next week. Students who were absent need to fill out the paper attached below.

Students wrote sentences about their experience in the storm. Then we practiced combining them to make compound and complex sentences. Afterwards we read from chapter #4 in the book. Students who were absent do not need to make up anything. Today in class . . . Students worked in groups to create words using prefixes, root words, and suffixes. The group with the most total points at the end of class earned +2 extra credit points. Students who were absent need to complete front only of the assignment below.
Today in class . . . Students turned in reading log #2 and received reading log #3 (attached below and in the sidebar). We also finished reading chapter two and practiced types of sentences by summarizing the lesson Bod learned in this chapter.

Students finished and turned in their parts of speech posters. They also read the middle part of chapter #3. Today in class . . .
Students worked on their parts of speech poster while I read the beginning of Chapter #3 to them. Students were required to identify on their posters these things: 1. 5 proper nouns 2. 5 common nouns 3. 10 adjectives 4. 5 verbs 6. 3 helping verbs 7. 10 adjectives 8. 6 prepositions Extra credit was given to students who chose a favorite work in each section, chose a color to symbolize it, colored the square that color and explained the symbolism of it. Students took the writing pre-test. Students who missed a day of pre-testing will make up the testing during spartan forum and this will be organized by the school, not by Ms. Norr. Today in class . . .
Students learned about and practiced using prepositions and prepositional phrases. Afterwards, we started working on our parts of speech posters. These posters will be completed and presented in class on Monday. Students only have reading log #2 as homework. Today in class . . .
We started take the SAGE pre-test. Most students nearly finished the writing test. On Friday we will take the reading pre-test. *Students should bring their own headphones on Friday if they have them. Today in class . . .
We finished and turned in our Getting to know Neil Gaiman assignment and our letter to a hero. Afterwards, we finished reading chapter #2 of our book and started working on our parts of speech poster which will be more fully explained and completed in class on Thursday. Today in class . . .
We received up-to-date grade sheets and passed back graded work. We watched a video about 9/11, and we wrote gratitude letters to servicemen and women. Students finished "Getting to Know Neil Gaiman" from yesterday. We also finished reading chapter #2. Today in class . . . We took notes on complex and compound-complex sentences. Then we read started practicing those sentences with the assignment attached below. This assignment will be completed tomorrow in class.
Today in class . . . We turned in our first reading log and received our second one. We took notes on simple and compound sentences. Students who were absent should get the notes from a neighbor. Afterwards, we looked for subjects and predicates as we read more of chapter #2.

We discussed question and answer relationships and started reading chapter #2 in our book. As we read, we completed and OWL. Students who were absent need to practice close reading by reading the first 5 pages of chapter #@ and do to OWLs. O- Observation: Write down an important detail that you notice. W-Wonder: Write down a question that you have. L-Link: Connect what you know/have experienced to what you read. Turn your assignment in to Ms. Norr Today in class . . . We finished reading Chapter #1 and completed the assignment attached below.
