Today in class . . . We took our Claims quiz. Then we discussed the major types of transitions. We created road signs to represent each type. We also played uno.
For the next 4 days in class, we will be working on expository poster. Students will use all 6 expository modes as the 6 paragraphs that go on this poster. Students will also research a winter celebration that is unfamiliar to them. The poster will be digitally turned in on Friday. The materials students need are attached below.
Today in class . . . We used the red literature books and went on a mode scavenger hunt. We read a variety of texts and determined with our groups, what mode we would use to paraphrase that text. If you were absent, you will need to come in to use a textbook. The assignment we filled out is attached below.
Today in class . . . We took our analogy & allusion quiz. Afterwards, we practiced writing in our last two expository modes. The assignment is attached below and it is due on Monday.

Today in class . . . We worked in tables to identify which mode each of the six paragraphs about Dogs & Cats were written in. There will be one paragraph for each type. If you missed class, you will need to do the assignment on your own. The assignment and paragraphs are attached below.

We took our quiz on alliteration and assonance. Then graded and corrected our Informational Texts & Texts Features test. If you missed class you can talk to me about making corrections on your test and you will need to take the quiz at home. Today in class . . .
We took our test. There were 21 questions and it is worth 24 points. If you missed the test, you will need to study the study guide ant take the test on your own time. Today in class . . . We filled out a study guide for our informational text feature test tomorrow. The notes for this unit and the study guide are attached below. Please study!
Today in class . . . We learned how to evaluate an informational text. Students are good at identifying things in texts. But it is important for them to develop their critical thinking abilities. We practiced this as a class by reading this article from the onion together: Books Don't Take You Anywhere. Then we talked about whether we believed the author or not. After that we looked at this picture. We discussed the main idea and then we looked at what the photographer was trying to make us believe based on what he included in the picture. Students who missed class will need the green and pink articles from my room in order to finish the assignment attached below.

We finished the assignment from last Tuesday. Students chose an informational article to read and identified the parts of the author's argument. They did this once with a partner and once on their own. |
