We turned in our peer reviews and completed our storyboards. Afterwards, students looked at model texts and revised their introductions and conclusions. Finally, students made sure that their stories contained these required elements. Fractured Tale Requirements: Exposition
Today in class . . . Students finished their story boards for their fractured tales. Afterwards, they did peer reviews using the document attached below.
Today in class . . . Students finished up their story boards and made revisions using sticky notes.
Today in class . . . Students finished their plot plan. Next we looked and Harris Burdick pictures and made up ways that they could be fractured fairy tales. Then we talked about strategies to characterizing characters and student began working on their storyboards.
Today in class . . . We read and analyzed picture books paying attention to how the author manipulated and introduced elements of fiction. Afterward, we started the assignment attached below. Students must have the proposal approved by me before they begin working on the plan on the back.
Today in class . . . We reviewed the elements of fiction by reading "Duffy's Jacket" and analyzing its plot by filling out a diagram and answering a few questions. The assignment is attached below.

We finished reading The Giver. Watched some of the final scenes from the movie and compared them to the book. Wrote a reflection and had our last discussion. Students who were absent will need to follow the make-up directions below. Reflection: Write a 2 sentence answer to each question in reaction to the end of The Giver. 1. Explain what you think happened at the end. 2. Identify lessons that the book taught you. 3. Comment on one choice the author made. Discussion #4: Answer each question with 3 complete sentences and included evidence from the book. 1. Did Jonas make the right choice to leave the community with Gabe? 2. How do you think The Giver felt when he realized Jonas was gone? 3. What do you think Jonas's family will do now? 4. What is one question you would ask the author? Today in class . . .

We took the end-of-level reading comprehension test. Students tested on the computers in the writing lab for one class period. This was the final state test for English class this year! Students who were absent will be called out of class to finish sometime during the next week. |
