Today in class class . . . We took notes on strategies 6 & 7 (visualizing and writing summaries). We read the first half of chapter four. We started the assignment attached below but will turn it in tomorrow. It is a bookmark so student only needed to do on half of each page.

Today in class . . .
We finished reading our strategy review article from Friday. We aslo read to the end of chapter #3. If you were absent, we turned in our yellow strategy review article and our predictions and evaluations assignment. Today in class . . . We played a review game instead of taking a quiz today. If you want to review what we studied for our self-starters they are posted below. We also practiced using our 5 reading strategies that we have studied so far. As we read this article, we annotated it. We practiced each strategy, labeled, and explained it in the margins. The article is below.
Today in class . . .
Students got to choose whether they wanted to work on missing or late work, or finish yesterday's assignment. Yesterday's assignment will be due on Monday. All missing work for this past unit (Elements of Language) is due Friday. Today in class . . . We learned about two new reading strategies and practiced them in class. The assignment is posted below. It is due on Monday. If you missed class, you should get the notes from a friend because I will post all of the reading strategy notes together next weed. You don't want to wait until then.
Today in class . . . We practiced our 3rd reading strategy. Asking different types of questions. Our assignment was to write 8 questions (2 of each type) about our book. If you missed class today you will need to do the assignment attached below.

We took notes on our second reading strategy and read most of chapter 2. If you were absent, you should get the notes from a friend or neighbor and borrow a book to catch up on the reading. Today in class . . . We took our quiz on conjunctions and types of sentences. If you missed class, you will need to take that quiz using the file below and bring it to me so that I can grade it. We also took notes on the reading strategy or making connections. We took notes on 3 types of connections that we commonly make while we are reading. You will need to get those notes from a classmate. We finished chapter #1 of our book.
Today in class . . .
We took our elements of language pre-test. If you missed it please come take it after school or during spartan study hall. The test covered the parts of speech, the punctuation spectrum and types of sentences. Today in class . . . You had a substitute because Ms. Norr was at the environmental center with the peer leaders. Students used their notes, assignments, self-starters, and pretest to complete the study guide attached below. If you were absent please look at the study guide.
We have now completed our poster final drafts and presented them in class. Students earned points for taking notes on presentations. These points can be made up by taking notes on the posters that are displayed in the classroom.
Today in class . . . We took our punctuation quiz. If you missed it, you will need to download it and bring it in for me to grade. We completed our poster final drafts and will present them in class on Monday.
Today in class . . . We finished our proposals and poster drafts. They are worth 10 points so make sure you turn them in. Please see my example of a poster draft below.
Today in class . . . Reading Log #1 was due. It can still be turned in, it will just be docked 2 points for being late. You can turn it in with an oops card in order to not lose those 2 points. If you were absent, you will need to get an absent coupon from me. I passed out Reading Log #2, it is due on September, 24th. You can download it below. We started our final project for this unit. It is a grammar poster. Please see the project guidelines and proposal attached below.
Today in class . . . We reviewed the two types of affixes. Prefixes and suffixes are added to beginning and ends of words to change their meanings or part of speech. Using word strips, partnerships competed to earn the most point. Points were eared by creating the most words and the most complex words. Here are the assignment sheet and the handout we used:
Today in class . . . We took notes on three different types of sentences and then worked with a partner to find all of those types in a short story. Here are the notes:
Today in class . . . We took our pronoun quiz and talked about 3 types of phrases. Here are the self-starters with the quiz at the end and the notes.
Today in class . . . We went over the four cases of pronouns. We filled out the chart attached below and did a cloze reading activity. If you missed class you will have to get the cloze activity from the absent crate.
Today in class . . . We learned about pronouns. We watched this catchy music video about them. We also used sticky notes to demonstrate how prepositions tell us position in space and time. Today in class . . . Each student studied to become the master of one of these parts of speech: pronouns, nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives. Then each student taught a small group of students about his or her part of speech. Students took notes on each other's presentations. Here is the assignment and handout if you missed it.
