We met with their groups and discussed the first two sections of our books. Students came to the discussion prepared. Each student had a role in the discussion. Students' participation was evaluated by the teacher and their peers. Students who were absent must write a 1/2 page reflection about what we have read so far in order to earn these points. Students read the first section of their books: Anne Frank p. 16 Night p. 21 Pajamas p. 11 Stars p. 11 After reading to this page in each of their books, students answered these questions. This assignment will be the last in-class assignment added to 3rd quarter's grade. Reading Log #12 and the Holocaust Vocabulary Quiz (both due in class on Wed. March 16th) will also be turned in and added to third quarter's grade. Reading Day #1 Analysis Questions Directions: After reading the first section of your book, answer each question below. We had our final discussion about our class novel. Students who were absent will need to write a half-page book review for the book. The review needs to have a claim, three reasons, evidence, and elaboration. Today in class . . .
We finished and did a peer review of our theme common assessment. The assignment is worth 20 points and is due tomorrow. The assignment sheet is attached to yesterday's post. Today in class . . . We took notes on how to identify a theme in a book, movie, or poem. Afterwards, we filled out a house that identified a them in our class novel. The assignment is attached below.
Today in class . . . We finished writing our informational essay comparing Scott's and Shackleton's expeditions to Antarctica. These assignments can be finished as homework and turned in for full credit on Tuesday. The assignment that guides you though part of the process is attached below. You will need to write your reason paragraphs on a lined piece of paper and stable them to this assignment.

We talked about four essential things to include in an introduction. Students drafted their introductions. An introduction needs to present these things in this order: 1. The topic. 2. Students practiced the TAP strategy using the assignment attached below. Afterwards, students wrote an expository essay prompt according to the directions below.

We talked about homonyms, homophones, and homographs. Students chose a word pair from our 25 commonly confused words on our reading log and made a flash card. Finally, students quizzed each other using their flash cards. Today in class . . . We identified text structures as we read in our book. We copied what we found on a paper with 6 equal sections. One section for each text structure. The students filled in the graphic organizer and identified 2-3 signal words for each structure. The text structure guided notes are included below again for reference.
